Not many would describe Heathcote as a cool climate region but via some fastidious viticulture and judicious winemaking the team at POCW have seemingly produced a "cool-climate-styled" Syrah!
Savoury and elegant, salted plums and a sprinkle of peppery spice are met with perfume and finesse thanks to a component of whole berry fermentation. This vintage spent 18 months in oak after the impressive results of the extended time and late bottling of the 2019 vintage. With proper, tight-grained tannins, this will continue to unwind over the next couple of years.

Who is Place of Changing Winds?
Founded in 2011 by Robert Walters and Kate Millard, Place of Changing Winds is the culmination of a thirty-year journey in wine. Located between Mount Macedon and Mount Bullengarook, proximity to forests makes for a cool climate, typically with good rain, cold nights and massive diurnal range – dreamy for Pinot and Chardonnay.
So they consciously planted high density (45,000 vines across 3.1 hectares) for lower, hopefully better quality yields. Their vineyard is certified organic and focus on maximising soil health. 20 years as a wine buyer led Robert to chase down rare allocations from exceptional growers and producers, which stoked his obsessive interest in the practices and terroirs of the world’s greatest wines and winemakers.
Robert has had plenty of help along the way, most notably from long-time friend Tim Brown (10 Minutes by Tractor) who acted as viticultural consultant.
