ABOUT SAUVIGNON BLANC
It doesn’t take a genius to see why Sauvignon Blanc is a staple in the wine fridges of Australia, fresh, light, and oh-so-easy to sip in the sunshine, this citrus-driven white wine is the perfect reprieve from dry, Aussie summer days. Sauvignon Blanc burst onto the international wine scene in the 1990s after taking up roots in the coastal region of Marlborough, on New Zealand’s South Island. Its crisp acidity, lean body and bold aromas of tropical fruits and grassy herbs gave it a refreshing and unabashed quality that gained widespread popularity. Although Marlborough styles dominate much of Savvy B’s international reputation, wines made from the variety often look considerably different in its homeland: France’s Loire Valley. Here, Sauvignon Blanc is made into a myriad of different styles, often employing winemaking methods such as lees stirring and oak ageing to flesh out the wine’s texture and tame the variety’s naturally high acidity.
